Interview

Industriemagazin
Focus interview with Florian Zangerl, editor in chief at Industriemagazin
Date: 02/04/2009
FeaturesExec has asked Florian Zangerl to tell us more about Industriemagazin and himself.
About the publication:
What makes Industriemagazin different from other publications in this sector?
Industriemagazin is the only magazine that provides its readers exclusively with professional and job-related information. Furthermore, Industriemagazin is the only title that deals with technical aspects of the industry on a journalistic basis.
What’s the greatest moment in the history of Industriemagazin so far?
I hope we haven’t had the greatest moment yet.
Do you produce a features list? If not, why not?
Yes, because our customers are looking for an editorial environment that meets their specific requirements.
About PRs:
Do you work closely with PRs or do you keep them at arm's length?
We like working with clever PRs. What we keep at arm’s length are the “We-have-sent-you something-did-that-sound-interesting-to-you?” PRs that chase you with calls.
Do you have any advice for PRs?
I would not presume to express any advice for PRs. I just would like to give the hint that if you want to be in a publication you should read it and know what it’s all about.
What information from PRs do you find useful?
Well-thought-out feature suggestions are very useful.
About you:
What does your job involve?
The designing of a magazine with all ups and downs of an editor’s life.
What do you love about your job?
It gives me the chance to meet exceptional people.
What lead you to become editor in chief for Industriemagazin?
I had finished my technical training and had already gained journalistic experiences – that seemed a good combination for the publisher.
What was your first job?
Trainee at Austrian daily newspaper NEUE Vorarlberger Tageszeitung.
Which person would you like to meet?
Alexander Humboldt.
If you could choose to be someone else for one day – who would that be?
Our dog.
